Protest GM's China Outrage!
Here's an outrage for you. I came across it in the Wall Street Journal's inside pages. The headline is "GM to Import
Chinese-Built Cars," and it was published May 14, 2009, on page B2. A link won't work because you have to subscribe but
you can get the article for a small fee at the Journal's website.
Here's the story. GM gave its plan
for restructuring to the White House last week. They will lay off 21,000 auto-assembly workers in the U.S., close dealerships
(this is in the headlines) and sell some of their brands. Buried in the fine print of the plan is something that
isn't in the mainstream media headlines -- GM plans to import 108,335 cars it will build in China over the next four
years, and half-a-million cars GM will build in China over the next decade!
Does it make sense
to you that American taxpayers are giving billions to GM to keep it afloat, so it can create jobs in China while laying off
union workers here?
I didn't think so.
Write, call, or email your senators
and representatives about this right now!!! Tell them you don't want GM to get a penny of taxpayer funding so long as it exports
American jobs and imports cars it builds in China! Tell the White House and Secretary of State Clinton too. The White
House phone number is (202) 456-1414. Start calling now. Tell the President you want GM to repay every penny of taxpayer support
before it offshores one job to China!
People, let's fight this!
Also, watch us on CSPAN2,
Book TV, Saturday May 16 at 11:30 am eastern standard time. For you late night types (I'll be up late tonight for a radio
interview!) there will be a repeat airing on Sunday, 2:00 am EST -- midnight Saturday PST -- of the show. This is
our talk last month in Washington, D.C. about Tibet and economic pressure against China.
